Veterinary acupuncture and chiropractic services

Special treatments to relieve conditions such as arthritis, allergies and joint disease in your pet.

In addition to using today’s modern medicines and techniques, Animal Emergency Hospital of St. Johns and Animal Emergency Hospital Volusia also specialize in animal acupuncture and chiropractic services to aid your pet’s healing process.

Veterinary acupuncture and chiropractic care are used in dogs and cats in the treatment of many chronic disease conditions including osteoarthritis, degenerative joint disease, allergies, and gastrointestinal problems.  These therapies are also used following surgery or injury to aid in the healing process, as well as for pain management purposes.

Initially used as a treatment method on ancient war horses, acupuncture has been a part of traditional Chinese veterinary medicine for thousands of years.  By stimulating specific points along pathways called meridians, a professional veterinary acupuncturist can aid the body in balancing and healing itself.

Animal chiropractic technique is another treatment modality that emphasizes the animal’s inherent recuperative power to heal itself, which is stimulated via a series of manipulations or adjustments.

In addition to dogs and cats, acupuncture treatment and chiropractic adjustment are also used frequently in equine sports medicine.  Veterinarians often use these methods on show and performance horses to manage injuries as well as subtle lameness issues and performance enhancement. Now the practice has spread to companion horses to help maintain the health and comfort of the animal.

It’s important to note that acupuncture treatment and chiropractic care do not replace western veterinary medicine.  The combined forces of both philosophies result in greater well being for the animals in our lives.

"It does not matter whether medicine be old or new, so long as it brings about a cure. It matters not whether theories be eastern or western, so long as they prove to be true."
